Dear 3, please give me reception...
It's been too long since my last blog. Since discovering vlogging I've basically given up on the written word. However, since 3 decided to ruin my life and give me no reception I decided to dedicate this blog to them.
I decided to go with 3 because my friends were all with 3. They have this cool offer that if you and your friend are both on 3 you get free calls to them. Which is fantastic except I never have reception so I can't actually make calls/receive calls/send texts/receive texts. I can still connect to my wifi though, so it's not all bad news.
The other day I drove for 30 minutes with no reception. It wasn't even roaming. I mean, I realize roaming isn't ideal but it is better than no reception. I know it sounds like I'm complaining about nothing but let's imagine this scenario. I'm driving and something happens to my car. I pull over, get out and look at the engine. Although I have no mechanical knowledge, I realize that I'll need to call someone to help. Alas, I cannot, because 3 hasn't got the ability to give me reception. So I'm forced to walk for hours to the nearest house. On my trek I am attacked by a gang of foxes and I'm killed. SEE! IT'S A TERRIBLE SITUATION!
So on my way to wherever I was going I decided to stop into the 3 store, you know, to see if it's actually a problem with my phone and not that the three service. The conversation with the guy at the store went like this:
Me: I don't have reception.
Guy: hahahahah.
Me: *puzzled face* no seriously, I never have reception.
Guy: um...have you tried turning it on and off?
Me: yes and manually changing my carrier. Nothing works.
Guy: oh...right. Well did you want to renew your contract and get a new phone?
Me: Ummm...no. I want to be able to get reception with this one.
Guy: yeah, I don't know how to do that.
Me: fantastic *leaves store*
My phone started roaming after that point, so I was super mega wet-my-pants excited because it was the first time all day. I went a little crazy with glee and sent all the text messages that I wanted to for the past 9 hours.
Anyway, later that evening I decided to check if I had any replies, you know from all my friends, only to find that I had no service. For a second I thought that that was because I had forgotten to change the carrier settings back to automatic. Sometimes that helps. By sometimes I mean on the rarest of occasions, but I'm a total optimist so I tried it anyway, I also decided to take screen shots so I could blog.
So once I gawked at Jake Gyllenhaal for a while. then keyed in my passcode I went to settings only to find this. Searching...
I got a little bit excited at this point because I considered 'No Service' to be an upgrade from 'Searching...'. See the thing you don't understand is when you're with the world's worst phone company the littlest things excite you. Whereas most of my friend's talk about all these cool new apps that they've downloaded I talk about how exciting it is when I have one bar of reception...even if it's roaming. I get excited thinking about it. That's how it is when you're a three customer.
Due to the fact that it was already on automatic I thought I'd help a little and select 3. You know, so my phone didn't have to stress out about which option would be the best.
Apparently 3 was not actually a valid option. Which is totally fine I thought to myself I'll just pick a different one...
No? No roaming? Okay, three. How about...
No?! Fine.
No service it is.
Dear Vanessa,
ReplyDeleteI'm commenting on this from work because I have decent internet access now. Remember that time when I try calling you from home/driving/anywhere and my phone dropped out? OH YEAH IT WAS ALL THE TIME.
But when I made the BEEP BEEP BEEP noises at you when I called you back that was really funny. Silver lining and that.
You're the best.
Hugs and kisses,
Jossie
