Happy New Year.

Just when I think that cute things don't happen to me something interesting happens and changes my mind. Like today while I was driving home from Melbourne. I was on the highway and I made awkward eye contact with the passenger in the car next to me. You know, when you glance out your window and someone else just so happens to do it at the exact same time? Awkward. Anyway the guy smiled, so naturally I smiled back then proceeded to avoid looking to my right for approximately 3 minutes (or the average length of a Kate Nash song).

After the song ended I glanced to my right again, maybe I was overtaking, I can't be sure, and I noticed that passenger guy had made a clever little sign which said 'you're cute'. Obviously, this made me giggle nervously to which he responded by turning the sign over to another little sign asking 'how are you?'. I said 'good'. Well, didn't really say it. I mouthed the word 'good' and asked how he was to which he replied he was also good. So the conversation seemed to have come to a halt after this. I went back to singing along to my tunes and sign guy's friend sped ahead. Story over, right? Wrong. After maybe 3 songs, I noticed that sign guy was once again at my window with a new sign. I know what you're thinking, 'how very dangerous' but I assure you it's not half as dangerous as it is adorable. Or maybe it's twice as dangerous. I can't be sure, I'm tired. Anyway, the new sign made a hilarious little remark about how speed kills, I assume by this he was implying I was speeding but I probably wasn't. It's not really an important part of the story, it's there to fill in a bit of space. So I kept focusing on the road. The long, boring, road back to Geelong, which is only the most horrible town in the world. I casually glanced to my right again and saw a new sign. This new sign just said 'Find me on Facebook' and had his name.

Cute right? No. Not really, because I only really quickly glanced at the sign and caught a glimpse of his name, then had to slow down dramatically because a learner driver was going 80km instead of 100km. AND THEN he and his friend took the next exit off the highway.

So that's my story. A guy make me complimentary signs and tries to get me to add him on facebook and I forget his name. It's not exactly a happy ending but it shows that sometimes in life cute things happen. And in my opinion, this is a great way to start 2012.
